“When writing lyrics, I always jot down ideas that I know won’t work for a song. In the summer of 2020, I suddenly had quite a few of them piling up, so I tried a craft that I’ve always admired: Poems for children. And in the case of Verše potrhlé, for children accompanied by their parents. I say “accompanied” because in some places I deliberately chose adult vocabulary. I remember well how I always looked forward to reading to my kids —Jonas and Ester—before bedtime. Those early-evening questions and discussions are irreplaceable. That makes me all the happier that Verše potrhlé is illustrated by Jonas himself. And if by chance you’re not at home or don’t have time, the book also includes an audio version narrated by my friends from the acting world. And believe me, they enjoyed the recording as much as little kids.”
